What is Transformation Temperature in Welding?
As we all know, steel has a crystal structure. At a certain temperature, usually around 1600 degrees Fahrenheit, that crystal structure changes. This is known as the transformation temperature.
Knowing the transformation temperature of the steel you’re working with is therefore essential to getting good results when welding. Fortunately, there are ways to determine this temperature, such as using a thermocouple. With the right tools and knowledge, you can ensure that your welding project turns out just the way you want it to.
What is the upper transformation temperature?
The transformation temperature is the temperature at which the crystal structure of the steel changes. The upper transformation temperature is the highest temperature at which this change can occur. For most steels, the upper transformation temperature is around 1600 degrees Fahrenheit.
What is lower transformation temperature?
The lower transformation temperature is the lowest temperature at which this change can occur. For most steels, the lower transformation temperature is around 1600 degrees Fahrenheit.
What are the effects of Transformation Temperature on Welding?
The transformation temperature can affect the properties of the steel.
- For example, if the transformation temperature is too low, the steel will be more likely to crack.
- On the other hand, if the transformation temperature is too high, the steel will be more likely to warp.
