Why Did We Create Welding Tech?

Welding Tech is the result of a conversation between new and old friends, all of whom happened to find their way to the same trade show in 2019. We wanted to create a resource for those who are entering the trade and trying to navigate the various pathways to certification. After many more conversations and a shared downtime due to Covid-19, we were able to make this site a reality.

As welders who are proud of our trade, we hope the resources here will help you determine how you can best meet your goals, both professionally and personally. This website is intended to be a free resource and is available to all potential welders. Welding Tech is not associated with any trade organization or welding business. Our wish is only to compile the most helpful information and advance our profession.

The welding trade is challenging on many levels, and we appreciate the ways in which the work holds our interest and keeps us moving. Becoming a welder has given each of us a skill we can use to earn a living using our hands, bodies and minds. We hope the trade will be as fitting for each of you as it was for us.

Victor Barbosa

Editor and Contributor

Victor first learned to weld in his father’s machine shop and still works alongside him when he isn’t working as a freelance writer and translator. He lives with his partner and two cats outside of San Francisco, where he can be close to his family. Victor loves to work out and considers his martial arts practice to be his third job.

Rebecca Hatchet

Contributing Writer

Rebecca has been in the welding field and has worked for the same company for the past 16 years. She considers herself a long-time casual writer and is working on a book of poetry. On the weekends, she can typically be found deejaying and especially loves events that allow her to showcase her favorite ‘80s and ‘90s playlist.

Edwin Castellano

Contributing Writer

Having learned his skills as a Navy diver, Edwin specializes in underwater welding. Recently returning to civilian life, Edwin is enjoying spending time with his family, especially his wife and three young sons. Although his free time is currently spent changing diapers, cleaning messes and washing bottles, he wouldn’t change a single thing.
